Message from the Principal on COVID-19
Sister Mary Joseph Gordon
Like many of you, we are closely monitoring the spread and impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Jamaica and around the world. This is first and foremost a health crisis, and our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been directly affected by the virus in their communities and to the health care workers who are on the frontlines in managing it. At Stella Maris Prep we are actively working to put measures in place that hopefully, will help to minimize the stress, anxiety and concerns arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over our 69-year history, we have had significant experience in navigating periods of volatility and uncertainty, and this time is no exception. Our focus, as always, is on our children’s wellbeing, and on delivering quality education by doing what we can to ease the transition from the traditional to the virtual classroom.
While it is too early to know the exact impact the virus may have on our educational systems and outcomes, I am confident that the dedication and hard work of our administration and teachers, coupled with the support of our parents, will allow us to continue to operate and serve in a reality that is significantly impacted by COVID-19. Consequently, we have given careful thought in planning the way forward, in anticipation of what is likely to be required of us as an educational institution, and will adjust our policies and operations accordingly. Similarly in the interest of our children we continue to actively test and explore possibilities within the ‘new norms’ resulting from the COVID-19 situation.
Please know that we are doing all we can to ensure that we continue to deliver education that empowers our students to successfully navigate present and future challenges in a continuously changing world.
